Workshops
Each workshop is tailored to suit the individual needs of your school or club, and will contain the following elements:
An Opening Performance by our workshop leaders allows students to become enthusiastic about the skills they are going to learn on the day and demonstrates how far circus skills can be taken with regular practice. Within a school setting this performance can be structured into an assembly format. It includes audience participation and gets the students thinking about the correct techniques so when they are retaught them in the workshops they will already be familar with the information.
Workshops, running throughout the day, allow students in smaller groups to learn a range of skills, such as juggling, plate spinning, and hula-hoop, under the careful instruction of our experienced workshop leaders. Each workshop will conclude with a free-play session where students can try out equipment such as stilts, unicycles and diabolo or can practise the skills they have already learnt. Our advisers will help you choose the best circus skills for each workshop.
We can accomadate a maximum of 35 students for structured workshops but obviously smaller numbers are preferable because the smaller the class size the more one-on-one time each student will get. These workshops vary in time depending on the age of the students and how much time you have available. Thirty minutes is a good length of time for nursery age and forty-five minutes for reception. Then for older students as long as time will allow but much can be achieved in an hour long workshop.
Teachers are welcome and encouraged to get involved with the workshop sessions, but if there are any particularly enthusiastic members of staff then we also offer workshops specifically tailored to teachers. These cover both the basic skills along with ways of incorporating “Circus Breaks” into your lesson plans, and ideas for related cross-curricular activities.
